Installing Pocket-CASSY 2 Bluetooth
Pocket-CASSY 2 can be connected to a PC USB port using the
enclosed USB cable. A 500 mA port, such as a normal built-in
USB port, or ports in a USB hub with an external power supply
(e.g. monitors but not keyboards), is required for installation.
The operating system will detect Pocket-CASSY 2 when is first
connected via USB and the necessary drivers will be installed.
Pocket-CASSY 2 Bluetooth may be connected to the PC via
Bluetooth as an alternative. Electric power is then either sup-
plied by the enclosed power supply plug or a rechargeable
battery for Pocket-CASSY 2 Bluetooth (524 019).
While a USB connection does not have to be performed manu-
ally, a Bluetooth device must be connected manually so that
the association between Bluetooth device and PC is unambig-
uous.
This is done in CASSY Lab 2 with the menu item
Window
→
Show Bluetooth CASSYs
.
Note
If you cannot select this menu item your computer does not use
a Microsoft Bluetooth stack. If your computer uses a different
Bluetooth stack you can use the device manager to switch to
the Microsoft Bluetooth stack or use our Bluetooth dongle
(524 0031).
If a new CASSY is within range and switched on an unspecified
Bluetooth symbol
is displayed shortly afterwards. After click-
ing on
Utilize
to create a successful connection the type of the
Bluetooth CASSY
is displayed.
The CASSY’s name can be changed while it is connected. Any
CASSYs that were connected but not required to be shown in
this window anymore can be deleted by clicking the
Remove
button.
Remarks
The Bluetooth connection is protected by a PIN. You do not
need to know this PIN because CASSY Lab will enter the PIN
for you. Student cellphones cannot hijack this Bluetooth con-
nection because the PIN is not known to them.
The range of the Bluetooth connection is set to a maximum of
20 yards in open spaces. The range also depends on the sen-
sitivity of the Bluetooth devices and other 2.4 GHz radio devic-
es (e.g. WLAN).
We recommend using our Bluetooth dongle (524 0031) as a
Bluetooth peer terminal.
