Remove capscrew and locknut (not shown) to remove
retainer (1) and hinge pin (2).
6.
Operate the lifting device and/or move the truck forward to free the tailgate from the body.
7.
Position the tailgate on supports as needed to facilitate repairs.
The supports must be capable of supporting 7500 lbs (3402 kg).
Inspection of Tailgate
For this task, apply the following procedure:
1.
Inspect all the sheet metal for bends, dents or tears.
2.
Check the hardware holes for enlargement or breaks in the metal.
3.
Check threaded holes for stripped or otherwise damaged threads.
