STARTING ENGINES
It is recommended that a GPU be used when ambient temperature is 32°F
(0°C) or below. Ensure GPU supply is regulated to 28 VDC, has adequate
capacity for engine starting and is limited to 1100 amps maximum.
Airflow into the TFE 731 engine is sufficient to draw
personnel and equipment into the engine inlet. Person-
nel in proximity of the engine inlet should maintain a
safe distance at all times during engine operation.
On aircraft equipped with Nickel-Cadmium batteries,
do not dispatch
if red BAT 140 or BAT 160 warning
light comes on at any time prior to takeoff, including en-
gine start. Check batteries per Learjet Maintenance
Manual.
1. Cabin Door — Closed and locked.
a.
Both Door Handles — Forward.
b.
DOOR Light (red) — Not illuminated.
2. L and R FUEL CMPTR Switches — On. Check L and R FUEL
CMPTR lights — Out.
3. COOL-FAN Switch — OFF or FAN.
4. AUX HT Switch (if installed) — OFF.
5. Batteries — Check for minimum voltage.
6. PRI INVERTER Switch — On.
7. PARKING BRAKE (hydraulic pressure required) — Set.
8. HYD PUMP Switch — OFF.
9. BCN LT Switch — On.
10. Thrust Levers — CUTOFF.
11. Engine — Start:
a.
START-GEN Switch — START. Red starter engaged light (if
installed) will illuminate.
b.
Thrust Lever (at N
1
rotation and 10% N
2
)
— IDLE. AIR IGN
light will illuminate.
c.
If temperature is 0°F or below, SPR Switch — L or R depend-
ing on engine being started. Release switch at 300°C – 400°C
Turbine Temperature (ITT). Use of SPR switch is not required
at temperatures above 0°F.
Do not energize SPR switch at any time other than en-
gine start.
