Quick Install
If you have purchased more than one px4-300r, complete all steps on one before setting up additional devices.
IMPORTANT!
Before installing a new hard drive in your px4-300r network storage array, check the hard drive
compatibility list at
http://support.lenovoemc.com/px4-300r
for approved and supported hard drive brands and models.
1. Make sure at least one hard drive is installed in the px4-300r device.
2. Use the included network cable to connect the px4-300r to a network hub or switch.
3. Connect the included power cord to the back of the px4-300r and to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
4. Power on the px4-300r.
5. Use one of the following options to set up the px4-300r on your network:
Web Setup Portal:
From a computer on your network, go to
http://setup.lenovoemc.com
to automatically set
up your px4-300r. You can also download and install optional software components from this setup portal. For
best results, use a computer that is connected to the same subnet or network segment as the px4-300r device.
Device Management Console:
You can access the management console directly by entering the device IP
address or model name (for example, px4-300r) in your computer’s web browser. To use the model name on a
Mac, add
.local
after the name in the browser (for example, px4-300r.local).

Storage Manager
LenovoEMC Storage Manager is client software that allows multiple computers to interact with the px4-300r network
storage array. Install and run this application on each computer connected to your network to quickly discover the
px4-300r and assign drive letters to the device shares for browsing.

Disconnecting the px4-300r
You can keep the px4-300r powered on for constant use on your network. If you need to disconnect it from your
network, power down using either the power button or the shut down option in the management console.
CAUTION:
To prevent data loss, do not disconnect this device or any connected storage devices during data transfer.
Backing up with your px4-300r
Periodic system backups and more frequent data backups are recommended to ensure that your critical data is
always protected. For complete setup instructions and more information on backup strategies, consult the help files
available from the management console.

Safety Information
Observe the following guidelines when performing any work on your px4-300r network storage array:
1. Follow all instructions marked on the px4-300r and in the documentation.
2. Use only the power supply cable provided with the px4-300r. Always use the appropriate power supply
cable for your country.
3. Unplug the px device before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
4. Do not use the px device near water. Do not spill liquid on or into the px device.
5. Do not place the px device on an unstable surface.
6. Do not place the px device near or on a radiator or heat register.
7. Make sure the px device has ample ventilation (at least 6” or 127 mm) in front and behind the device.
