Notes:
• The PCIe card is sensitive to ESD. Ensure that you read and understand “Handling static-sensitive
devices” on page 46 first and carefully perform the operation.
• Depending on the specific type, the PCIe card might look different from the illustrations in this topic.
Removing the PCIe card
To remove the PCIe card, do the following:
1. Prepare your server. See “Preparing your server in advance” on page 47.
2. Remove the screw that secures the PCIe card to the riser card assembly. Then, grasp the PCIe card by
its edges and carefully pull it out of the PCIe card slot on the riser card.
Note:
The PCIe card might fit tightly into the PCIe card slot. If necessary, alternate moving each side of
the PCIe card a small and equal amount until it is completely removed from the slot.

3. Disconnect any cables from the PCIe card.
4. Install a new PCIe card to replace the old one or install a PCIe-card-slot bracket to cover the place. See
“Installing the PCIe card” on page 56.
5. If you are instructed to return the old PCIe card, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging
materials that are supplied to you for shipping.
