4. Gently pull the metal tab on the side of the chassis and push the tape drive outward from the rear. Then,
draw the tape drive out of the chassis.

5. If you are not going to install a new drive, install an EMI-protective shield in the vacant drive bay.
6. If you are instructed to return the old tape drive, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging
materials that are supplied to you for shipping.
Installing a tape drive
To install a tape drive, do the following:
1. Prepare your server and remove the server cover. See “Preparing your server in advance and removing
2. Open the front door (available on some models).
3. If needed, remove the old tape drive. See “Removing a tape drive” on page 71.
4. The tape drive must be installed into the lower optical drive bay. If the lower bay is covered by an EMI
shield, remove the front bezel and the EMI shield. See “Removing the front bezel” on page 59 and
“Installing the optical drive” on page 66
