The Hidden Disk
For defragmentation to work, there needs to be some destination memory for
the files to be copied to. This is achieved in the LI-6400 by keeping one of the
flash disks hidden. Normally, only the
/Sys
and the
/User
disks are on-line, and
the third one is off-line. When you defragment the
/User
disk, for example, all
the files get copied to the hidden disk, then the hidden disk is named
/User
and
brought on-line, while the previous
/User
is formatted and taken off-line to be
used for the next defragment.
If you need extra storage space, you can bring the hidden disk on-line for your
own use. As long as all disks are on-line, however, none of them can be de-
fragmented.
The Filer
The FILER is a general purpose tool for managing files, directories, and disks
on the LI-6400 file system. Some of the functions that you can perform with
the FILER include copying, deleting, renaming, and viewing files, as well as
disk operations such as formatting and defragmenting disks.
