• As a preview to understanding G-code files, the above example file
contains:
G-code type
Description
N-codes
Line numbers (optional and often omitted)
G00
Identifies a “rapid transitioning” line.
Typically used between cuts.
G01
Identifies a “linear interpolation” line.
Typically used to cut a straight line.
G02
Identifies a “circular interpolation” line.
Typically used to cut curves or holes.
X- and Y-codes
Identify absolute or incremental destination
positions on the respective X- and Y-axes.
F-codes
Specify the feed rate, typically in “IPM” or
inches-per-minute.
I- and J-codes
Specify the respective arc center coordinates
on the X- and Y-axes.
• There are many other G-codes that may be used, but these account
for many of the operations you would perform with your CNC plasma
cutting system.
