global observations of the Earth.
The image to the right shows the
path of the Aqua satellite. Data is
only collected when the satellite
is on the sunlit side of the Earth
because it measures reflected light
from the Sun. With each orbit, the
MODIS sensor onboard the satellite
can observe a swath of data over
1400 miles
(2253 km)
wide and can
image almost
the entire
Earth surface
everyday.
