Preheating stage (1)
In the preheating stage, the press is heated up in the absence of a
multilayer to the temperature specified in the press profile. To avoid
temperature losses and quickly reach the preheating temperature, for the
MultiPress S with automatic hydraulic pump, first the press jaws are
moved toward each other. In the MultiPress S containing a hand pump, a
pressure of 10 bar should be built up to this end. After the preheating
temperature has been reached, the multilayer assembled in the press
mold must be pushed into the press.
Note:
The preheating temperature should be set higher than the main
pressing temperature, since the temperature clearly drops when the
press mold is inserted.
Prepressing stage (2)
The prepressing stage must be started manually. It is required so as to
allow air bubbles trapped between the layers during the increase in
temperature to escape.
Note:
The prepressing time depends on the prepreg and should be at
least 1 minute, to allow the adhesive to melt uniformly.
Main pressing stage (3)
In the main pressing stage, the actual pressing of the layers constituting
the multilayer takes place. Temperature and pressure must remain
constant over the entire main pressing stage.
Cooling stage (4)
During the cooling stage, the temperature is slowly lowered to ambient
temperature. To avoid air inclusions in the still soft prepreg adhesive, it is
absolutely necessary to keep the pressure constant.
Note:
The dropping temperature causes the material to contract, so that
the pressure must be adjusted accordingly. This is why for the
MultiPress S containing a hand pump, the pressure must be checked by
means of the manometer during the entire cooling stage and, if
necessary, corrected by additional pumping.
