Overview of APX 1000 Operation and
Configuration
APX 1000 operation
An APX 1000 unit typically operates as an access server for data and voice over data
connections. It accepts user connections over a channelized T1, E1, DS3, or OC3 line from the
telephone switch. The digital voice or data from these ingress connections is processed by
internal digital signal processors (DSPs), and routed to network connections provided by an
egress card. Figure 4-1 shows this type of operation.

gateway information to illustrate how the unit will interoperate with your network
