Equipment and Rear Access Cabling for the DDM-2000 OC-12 Multiplexer
Lucent Technologies - Proprietary
See Notice on first page
The optical fiber cable is fragile and must be protected. The fibers should be
placed in a protective tube or channel, such as PVC tubing, when running the
cable from the DDM-2000 OC-12 to the cable rack. The fibers should be placed
in the cable rack in a protective channel with nothing on top of them. DO NOT
use cable ties with the optical fiber cables.
The recommended fiber protection system is listed in the “Introduction” section
of this manual.
The fiber from the DDM-2000 OC-12 transmitter and receiver to the
LGX
optical
cross-connection must be single mode.
For DDM-2000 OC-12 shelves that contain OC-3 links, fiber from the DDM-2000
OC-3 transmitters and receivers to the DDM-2000 OC-12 FUNCTION UNITS
OLIUs must be single mode with the exception of 21D-U OLIUs which require
multimode fiber.
!
WARNING:
Unterminated optical connectors may emit laser radiation. Do not view an unter-
minated optical connector with optical instruments.
!
WARNING:
Invisible laser radiation when open. Avoid direct exposure to beam.
Prior to connecting the optical fiber cables examine them to ensure that the
fibers are clean.
The fibers can be cleaned with optical lint-free tissue or with a compressed air
duster.
The optical fiber cables require
ST
®
connectors for connection to the DDM-2000
OC-3 or OC-12 Multiplexer.
The optical fiber cables will be connected to the DDM-2000 OC-12 Multiplexer
after the circuit packs are installed.
Procedure
(1) Connect the optical cables to the
LGX
optical cross-connect cabinet.
NOTE:
Cables should not be energized at this time.
NOTE:
Protective covers must be left on cables.
