DS1 Testing Procedure
Perform the following steps for all Metropolis
®
DMXtend shelf
Function Unit slots that are cabled to a DSX-1.
Function Unit slot A/B cabled to the DSX-1 must contain a DS1/DS3/
16/3 (LNW37) circuit pack in order to perform these tests on the DS1
portion of the cabling. Function Unit slot D or G cabled to the DSX-1
must contain either a 28DS1 (LNW6 or LNW7) or 56DS1PM (LNW8)
(Supported in release R1.1) circuit pack in order to perform these tests.
If the Metropolis
®
DMXtend shelf is not fully populated, it may be
necessary to move the circuit pack(s) from slot to slot in order to test all
DS-1 cabling.
Important!
The LNW39 (DS1/DS3/16/3) circuit pack only
supports the first 16 DS1’s of the A function group. The cabling for
DS1s 17 thru 28 will not be tested.
This procedure requires the use of a DS1 test set.
Step 1
Set the DS-1 test set to transmit and receive a Quasi-Random Sequence
Signal (QRSS) with B8ZS formatting.

Step 2
Connect a cable from the DS-1 test set transmit connection to the
IN
jack of the DSX-1 associated with the DS-1 tributary to be tested (start
with the first).

Step 3
Connect a cable from the DS-1 test set receive connection to the
OUT
jack of the DSX-1 associated with the DS-1 tributary to be tested (start
with the first).
Result:
The DS-1 test set should indicate a blue (AIS) signal is
being received.
