Have protective plugs been removed from all couplings in optical shelf slots to
be equipped with AYB1B OUs?
If YES, then proceed to Step 5.
If NO, then continue with Step 4.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the next optical shelf slot to be equipped with an
AYB1B OU.
5.
Remove the plug removal rod from the handle and store it in the J99409OB
case.
6.
Using an OBMK, clean one of the optical shelf backplane couplings uncovered
in Step 2 as follows:
• Insert a swab into chuck of handle and tighten chuck into handle.
• Insert handle, with swab into guide tube of alignment card.
• Moisten the tip of swab by dipping it into alcohol (isopropyl reagent).
• Remove excess alcohol with an alcohol moistened Kimwipe wiper or
equivalent.
• Insert alignment card into slot of optical shelf while keeping handle inside
guide tube. Latch the alignment card into place.
• Push handle into guide tube until knob of handle contacts guide tube.
• Rotate knob of handle three turns clockwise then three turns counter-
clockwise.
• Remove handle with swab from guide tube.
• Discard swab.
• Assemble air tube over nozzle on can of compressed air.
• Insert air tube with canned air into guide tube of alignment card until tube
stops forward progress.
• Using can of compressed air, blow three short blasts of air into coupling.
• Remove air tube with canned air from guide tube.
• Remove alignment card from slot.
