Test Battery String (OPEN BAT TEST)
SUMMARY: This test verifies that no battery string has an open circuit. Verify that
plant has sufficient load. Requirement: plant current measures 3A (3 mV DC).
Depress and hold OPEN BAT TEST pushbutton; measure each battery string
current. Requirement: DMM indicates greater than 0 mV DC for each battery string.
1.
On the control & distribution panel, verify that some or all of the load circuit
breakers CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4, CB5, and CB6 are turned on (closed).
2.
Condition DMM to measure DC volts. Measure bulk power plant load at PC
and PCR test points.
3.
Does DMM indicate 3 mV (equivalent to 3A) or higher bulk power plant cur-
rent?
If YES, then continue with Step 4.
If NO, then bulk power plant does not have enough load for test.
4.
Connect DMM to BATC test point and BAT( ) (BAT1, BAT2, BAT3, BAT4) test
point to measure battery string current for battery string being tested.
5.
NOTE:
Depressing the OPEN BAT TEST pushbutton turns off the power units
(rectifiers) as long as the pushbutton is depressed and will suppress
alarms for 2.5 minutes. The pushbutton may be depressed by inserting
an orange stick through the hole.
Depress and hold OPEN BAT TEST pushbutton.
6.
Note DMM indication. Measure battery string current at test points for remain-
ing battery strings to be tested.
