Converting RT Channel Bank Feature Package
Introduction
This Tab provides procedures to convert a remote terminal (RT) system (blue or
white) from one feature package to another. Procedures for adding or removing
protection line digital facility are also included.
Feature Packages
The
SLC
Series 5 carrier system offers a variety of system configurations offering
POTS only, special services, concentration, and integration. These configurations are
called feature packages. The feature package is selected by the choice of bank
control unit (BCU), alarm display unit (ADU) and option settings on the ADU. The
choice of supporting common units [transmit/receive unit (TRU), line interface unit
(LIU), channel test unit (CTU), digital test unit (DTU), line switch unit (LSU), and
transcoder unit (TCU)] is determined by the feature package configuration.
The following is a list of feature packages that are available:
• Feature Package B (FPB) offers four basic configurations for universal or inte-
grated applications.
1.
Mode 1 without special services, no concentration.
2.
Mode 1 with special services, no concentration.
3.
Mode 2 without special services, 2-to-1 concentration.
4.
Mode 2 with special services, 2-to-1 concentration.
• Feature Package C offers POTS and special services, no concentration.
• Feature Package C AutoCut offers POTS and special services, no concentration,
and converts to FPB Mode 1 automatically when central office (CO) is cut over.
Preparation
Preparing for a conversion may involve adding or rearranging digital facilities,
grooming special service circuits, performing office-to-office tests, and reassigning
