WaveLAN/EC-S User’s Guide
A-3
Serial Pinout Configuration
A
The included serial cable is a standard 9-pin straight-through cable
from computer or terminal to the WaveLAN/EC-S device:
■
If for example the WaveLAN/EC-S device transmits data on
pin 2 the connected computer or terminal device will receive it
on pin 2 as well
■
Similarly, when the computer or terminal device needs to
transmit a signal, it should do so via pin 3, which corresponds
to the receive data pin 3 on the WaveLAN/EC-S device.
The WaveLAN/EC-S is configured to ultimately support two sets of
handshake lines for flow control:
■
RTS/CTS (Request to Send/Clear to Send), and
■
DTR/DSR (Data Terminal Ready/Data Set Ready).
NOTE:
The RTS/CTS signal here relate to communication via the
serial RS-232 port only. They are fully independent from
the WaveLAN RTS/CTS signals that are controlled via the
WaveLAN Medium Reservation mechanism.
Pinout configuration

1
The pinout configuration for the serial interface is wired to the DCE (Data
Communication Equipment) specification, except pins 1 and 9.
