chunk of data from another. What the data means and/or how
the data is to be delimited is known only to the devices
generating and exchanging the data.

Packet-based data systems, such as the WaveLAN radio,
split data into separate chunks. The transmitting device
“wraps” the data into specific frames that include a destination
address and information about related frames.
When the WaveLAN/EC-S receives data via the WaveLAN radio
addressed to the device connected to its serial port, it will:

Remove the wrapper information, and
■
Forward the “true” data to the serial port as fast as it can.
When the WaveLAN/EC-S receives data via the serial port (which
must be forwarded via the WaveLAN radio, it will need to:
■
Split the serial data stream into multiple chunks.
■
Embed these chunks into separate frames
■
Add the destination address to these frames.
For most networking environments however, you are advised to
leave these settings to their factory-set defaults, as displayed in
Figure 4-6 on page 4-26.

customize the translation protocol of your WaveLAN/EC-S device.
