The Starter Kits 50 cm & 80 cm are complete vivariums, consisting of a glass tank
and cover which includes the entire lighting technology. At the same time, it offers
the opportunity to engage in the terrarium for care and feeding. Thanks to the
deliberate design many useful accessories can be integrated. The entire tech-
nology is chosen from the outset so that the beginners can focus in this hobby
throughout his new pets and not have to deal with complicated technical issues.
As reptile experts we from Lucky Reptile have already done it for you and your
loved animal. The Lucky Reptile Starter Kits are supplied only as species-specific
sets. Every set includes all the lights and all accessories required for the kee-
ping of this species in good and healthy condition. So you can be sure that you
have everything necessary for the welfare of your pet. Additional compatible
accessories can be easily retrofit at any time.
How bring the technique into operation
Step 1:
Take out the cover of the box. Turn them, so you can place it on a scratch
pad vice versa. In this position it’s much easier to install the fluorescent tubes.
Attention, please fix the two lids of the cover, so they do not open suddenly and
getting damaged!
Step 2:
Mounting the fluorescent tube - Please unscrew the two sleeves of the
two holders for the fluorescent tube and stick them onto the tube. Than place the
tube into both holders and twist it a quarter turn. Finally push the sleeves onto
the threaded sides and screw them until they stops.
Step 3:
Please look for a suitable and flat place for the glass terrarium. It is
recommended that the glass basins always be placed on a styrofoam or foam
pad to compensate irregularities. Make sure that the ventilation on the side of
the tank is placed on the left side if you look from the front side. Only then is
a uniform ventilation of the pool is guaranteed. Then set up the terrarium in
accordance with the requirements of the particular specie which will be kept.
Step 4:
After you set up the decoration please put the cover onto terrarium.
Open the front lid. Two fixing screws are placed on both sides of the inner frame.
On the inner sides of the frame are fixing screws on both sides. Tighten these
screws with a 3mm Allen key. Thus, the whole cover is properly connected to
the glass tank.
Step 5:
Halogen Heat Spot. To install the supplied halogen lamps, please open
the back side lid. To mount the halogen downlight please follow the imaging.
Depending on which animal the Starter Kit is intended, different down lights are
used. For the adjustable lighting take the spring clip from below by squeezing
and insert the spotlight also from below. Then secure the spotlight again by
reinstalling the spring clip. Make sure that the clip is securely snapped into
the groove. Stick the socket from above on the pins of the halogen spot lamp.
Finally adjust the down light in the desired direction. For the immovable recessed
lighting the lamp will be released by turning the lamp holder and can then be
taken down. Put the replacement spotlight from above, from the side coming into
the lamp holder. Make sure that the bulb is securely held by the clip spring! Then
put the lamp holder back into the luminaire and plug the socket on top of the
pins of the halogen lamp.
Step 6:
Check whether the equipment is working properly. To do this, connect
both plugs to the power supply. If in your Starter Kit, an adjustable down lights
is built turn it in the desired direction. Note in the context the spacing recommen-
dations on the packaging of Lucky Reptile Lamp!
Optional Equipment:
Multiple socket:
It is possible to place an entire common multiple socket in to
the cover, so only one single cable must be lead out. As standard the cables will
come out on the backside of the cover. To plug in the cables inside the cover the
rear lid must be removed. By pressing together the lid a bit from the side until
it slightly bend,. Then you can release the cover from the holders and remove it.
Then make the wiring and replace the cover in the same way again.
Timer:
It is recommended to use a timer for controlling the lighting. The cover
of the Starter Kit 80 cm provides enough space even to place several timers
while for the Starter Kit 50 cm in lack of space time switches must be unfortu-
nately located outside. Tip: With two timers fluorescents tube and spot light can
be controlled separately. If the spot light will be switching on later and shutdown
earlier that the tube light, more natural course of the day for light and heat can
create. In addition this method saves a lot of energy..
Bright Sun UV:
By default, all starter kits equipped with a UV Sun T5 fluorescent
tube that supplies the terrarium with UV radiation and wide spreading light. The
halogen spot light creates a small basking area for additional light and heat.
This is even sufficient for sun-loving animals in combination with the terrarium.
However true sunbather find a lease of live under a high-quality light source.
The Lucky Reptile Bright Sun adds even more sun-like light in the terrarium
and as in nature united with heat radiation, an optimum UV value and a lot of
light in one. Therefore, it is often recommended by veterinarians. Accordingly,
it is possible for the Starter Kit 80cm to retrofit a Bright Sun 35W. The Bright
Sun Set DL goes easy because here downlight and ballasts are preinstalled
and only need to be placed. The installation can be carried out by any layman.
To install the Bright Sun Set DL, the opening needs to expand by cutting out the
ring at the predetermined perforation. This works best with a sharp knife. In this
opening the down light is then inserted from below and secured by twisting. But
first, however, you need to slide the ballast from below through the opening and
accommodate the equipment the technique compartment behind. For the ignition
cable, there is a extra-groove between light shaft and technique compartment.
Alternative fluorescents tubes: As standard the Starter Kits 50 are equipped with
8W UV Sun T5 fluorescent tubes while the 80 Starter Kit using 24W UV Sun tubes.
These UV fluorescent tubes can be replaced by any regular T5 tubes of the same
power (watts). Especially when, the Bright Sun is used for the 80 Starter Kit the
UV radiation might be too much. In that case we recommend to take a Daylight
tube like the Lucky Reptile Daylight Sun. It should always be preserved areas in
the terrarium, which have a lower UV radiation.
Additional heating: If the lighting alone is not sufficient to bring up the tempe-
rature in the terrarium to a decent value, e.g. if the tank is placed in cool room,
it might be necessary to use a separate heating device. In that case, a small
heating pad or a heating cable is best.
There are mats that are used inside the terrarium, as the Themo Mat PRO. The
simpler Thermo Mat will be glued externally. If you want to use the mat as floor
heating it is mounted on bottom of the pelvic floor. Be careful what ground you
use. Not all substrates are suitable for combination with heat mats! However,
for many animals, it is better the mat to be mounted on a side of the terrarium.
So the ground dries out not as fast and digging pecies can retreat to cooler soil
layers.
Thermostat control:
To prevent the terrarium gets too warm for example du-
ring the summer months, it is always safer to use a thermostat like the Thermo
Contol PRO II. The use of a thermal control offers the advantage that on the
second slot, a timer is integrated. The heating would only be switched on when
the previously programmed value is reached. At the same time it is possible to
set the device that turns on a fan in case of overheating, which blows the hot air
out of the terrarium. But it’s also possible to set the device the way it switches
on a fan in case of overheating, which blows the hot air out of the terrarium. The
device is so small that even fits into the cover of the small Starter Kit.
