Although this may appear at first to impose a severe restriction on how
the card can be used, it actually does not. Most of the more-advanced
audio applications allow the user to assign audio tracks to more than one
of these devices at a time, allowing complete simultaneous use of all
audio ports!
Hardware Mixer Operation
The DMAN 2044 hardware mixer controls the playback levels of all 4
WAV audio streams, the levels of the input monitors, and the routing of
the input monitors to output channels. Each hardware input (IN1, IN2,
IN3, IN4) is mixed and routed as shown below (the figure below depicts
just one of four circuits in the hardware input mixer):

Notice that not only does the audio from each input go to your software
application for recording, but it is also monitored at the output of your
choice. The monitoring level and destination are both software-pro-
grammable.
NOTE: There are no “recording level” controls for the DMAN 2044
inputs. In order to obtain the maximum possible dynamic range and
lowest noise, the inputs are always run at full-scale. The external
audio source driving each input should be adjusted at the external
audio source for optimal recording levels.
Each hardware output (OUT1, OUT2, OUT3, OUT4) receives a mix of
WAV playback audio plus monitor audio. The figure below depicts just
one of four circuits in the hardware output mixer:
