4 Dismantling/Assembly
Cracks
Cracks can initiate on the machine after a period
of operation and propagate with time.
• Cracks often initiate in an area exposed to
high cyclic material stresses. These are
called fatigue cracks.
• Cracks can also initiate due to corrosion in an
aggressive environment.
• Although very unlikely, cracks may also occur
due to the low temperature embrittlement of
certain materials.
The combination of an aggressive environment
and cyclic stresses will speed-up the formation of
cracks. Keeping the machine and its parts clean
and free from deposits will help to prevent
corrosion attacks.

Disintegration hazard
All forms of cracks are potentially dangerous
as they reduce the strength and functional
ability of components.
Always replace a part if cracks are present.
It is particularly important to inspect for cracks in
rotating parts and especially the pillars between
the sludge ports in the bowl wall.
Always contact the supplier if you suspect that the
largest depth of the damage exceeds
1,0 mm.
Do
not continue to use the separator until it has been
inspected and cleared for operation by the
supplier.
