Editing an external CSS style sheet
When you edit a CSS style sheet that controls the text in your document, you
instantly reformat all of the text controlled by that CSS style sheet. Your edits
affect all the documents linked to the style sheet.
To edit an external CSS style sheet:

Open any document that is linked to the external CSS style sheet you
want to change.

Do one of the following:
•
Choose Window > CSS Styles, or click CSS Styles in the Launcher. In the CSS
Styles panel, right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) and choose
the Edit Style Sheet from the pull-down menu.

Choose Text > CSS Styles > Edit Style Sheet.

In the Edit Style Sheet dialog box, select the name of the external style sheet
and click Edit.
A second Edit Style Sheet dialog box displays the styles in the external style
sheet. Select the style you want to edit.

Edit the style. See “Creating a CSS style in Dreamweaver” on page 252.

Click Save when you have finished editing styles.
Creating a CSS style in Dreamweaver
Create a CSS style to automate the formatting of HTML tags or a range of text
identified by a
class
attribute.
To create a CSS style:

Choose Window > CSS Styles and in the CSS Styles panel, right-click
(Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) and choose New Style from the pop-
up menu. You can also click the New Style icon found at the bottom of the
CSS Styles panel.

Choose from the following CSS style options:
Make Custom Style (Class)
creates a style that can be applied as a
class
attribute to a range or block of text.
Redefine HTML Tag
redefines the default formatting of a specified HTML tag.
Keep in mind that you can alter the layout of many pages when you redefine a tag.
Use CSS Selector
defines the formatting for a particular combination of tags
or for all tags that contain a specific

attribute.
