secured by a self-closing retractable saw guard.
To aid the opening of this retractable saw guard
once it has been positioned on the workpiece, a
handle is attached to the guard.
Devices for safe guiding:
The large base plate guarantees safe rest of the
machine on the workpiece. Ergonomically
arranged handles are provided for guiding dur-
ing the sawing operation. Thanks to the parallel
guide fence, which can be used on both sides of
the cutting plane, it is possible to guide the
machine both along the edge of a workpiece
and along a guide rail placed on the workpiece.
The scoring edges which are well visible from both
sides of the machine also contribute to safe guiding.
Protection against kickback of the workpiece:
In order to prevent a possible kickback of the work-
piece in the event of tilting and to assist in guiding
the machine during the advance motion, the cord-
less portable circular saw is provided with a riving
knife/splitter. As regards its thickness, this riving
knife/splitter is adapted to the saw blade supplied
and can be positioned near the saw blade within
the limits specified in the technical data.
Switching equipment:
The lock-off button provided in the handle pre-
vents unintentional switching on. The machine
can only be operated as long as the switch trig-
ger, which is also to be found in the back handle,
is pressed down. The machine is switched off
automatically when this is released.
Ergonomics:
Essential ergonomic principles taken into con-
sideration for the design of the machine:
low weight compared with the given cutting
depth thanks to an efficient battery-powered
motor,
only one service tool for all functions arranged
in a holding device on the machine.
Chip removal:
Chips are routed via a built-in chip duct to the
attachable extractor connection. This means the
machine can be connected to an external
extractor unit e. g. a mobile dust extractor. In
case of operation without dust extraction, the
streamlined upper saw guard ensures that the
chips are blown out without hitting the operator.

Use according to intended purpose
The MAFELL cordless portable circular saw KSP 55
/ 24 V is intended exclusively for ripping and cross
cutting solid timber and sheet materials such as par-
ticle boards, core-boards and Mdf-boards with a
maximum thickness of 55 mm (2 3/16 in.) using the
circular saw blades permitted.
The diameter of the saw blades used must lie within
the following range:
minimum-
∅
149 mm (5 3/4 in.),
maximum-
∅
160 mm (6 1/4 in.)
The maximum basic thickness of the saw blade
body must not exceed 1.2 mm (3/64 in.).
Any use beyond this scope is considered as failing
to comply with the intended purpose. The manufac-
turer is not liable for any damage caused as a result
of this; the risk is borne solely by the user.
The use of saw blades made of high-speed steel
(HSS) and of abrasive disks is not permitted.
The machine is not suitable for operation in the rain
outdoors or in areas subject to explosion hazards.
Use according to intended purpose also includes
compliance with the operating, maintenance and
repair conditions specified by MAFELL, and adher-
ence to the safety instructions contained in the oper-
ating manual.
The cordless portable circular saw KSP 55 / 24 V
must be operated, tooled and maintained only by
persons above the age of 18 familiar with the
machine and instructed as to the risks. Repair work
must be carried out by authorized MAFELL dealers
or a MAFELL customer service station.
The safety regulations applicable in the country of
use, as well as all other generally accepted rules on
safety and occupational medicine, must be
observed.
Unauthorized modifications to the machine preclude
the liability of the manufacturer for any resultant
damage.
The cordless portable circular saw must not be used
as a stationary fixed circular saw tool built into a
base plate on the workbench.
The safety devices described in this
manual are essential prerequisites of
safe machine operation. They must
not be removed or put out of action.
