Examine the workpiece for foreign objects.
Never attempt to cut nails or other metal
objects.
Dropping of the system and bending of the
guide track can be avoided by a sufficient sup-
port.
Before switching on, make sure that the saw
blade ist tightly secured and that the Allen key
has been removed.
In accordance with the diagram on the control
panel, select the correct saw blade and the
speed of the forward momentum depending on
the material to be worked on.
The slide bar controlling the interruption of the
forward momentum and the automatic upward
movement of the saw assembly into the resting
position must be adjusted correctly to the work-
piece (length of wor 120 mm / 4 3/4 in.).
Keep your hands away from the underside of
the workpiece when sawing (risk of injury!).
When sawing, always lead the cable away from
the system to the rear.
Do not attempt to switch off the machine by pull-
ing the plug while the switch is pressed down.
Do not remove the machine from the workpiece
until the saw blade is stationary and the saw
assembly has returned into its starting position.
No attempt must be made to slow down the saw
blade by applying lateral pressure to its surface.
The sawdust created by cutting makes it difficult
to see as clearly as may be necessary and can
be damaging to health in certain circumstances.
If not working outdoors or on well ventilated
premises, the system must be connected to an
extractor unit, such as a small portable dust
extractor, when operating for long periods. The
air velocity must be at least 20 m/s (65.6 ft/sec.).
Instructions on service and maintenance:
Regular cleaning of the system, especially the
adjusting devices for the saw assembly and the
guideways in the guide track, is an important
safety factor. Before beginning this task, pull out
the mains plug (see paragraph 6.1).
Only original MAFELL spare parts and accesso-
ries must be used. Otherwise the manufacturer
does not offer any warranty and does not accept
any liability.

Setting up / Adjusting
3.1
Installation / Transportation
The panel saw system PSS 3000 is delivered in a
suitable cardboard box. At first, the system should
be checked for any damage which may have
occurred in transit. Damaged packing may indicate
incorrect handling during transportation. Report any
damage which has occurred in transit to the
machine dealer immediately.
Check that the following parts are correctly and
firmly seated:
Saw blade
Riving knife / splitter
Connection hose (protective cover)
3.2
Mains connection
The panel saw system PSS 3000 can be operated
only with single-phase alternating current 230 V
(± 10 %) / 50 - 60 Hz. It is earthed for protection in
accordance with class I, Association of German
Electrical Engineers 0740, and therefore must only
be connected to sockets with safety conductors.
Before starting up, make sure that the mains voltage
matches the voltage stated on the rating plate of the
system.
3.3
Chip extraction
When cutting wood for a long period and when using
the machine industrially and with materials that gen-
erate dust which represents a health hazard, the
panel saw system must be connected to a suitable
dust extractor unit. The inside diameter of the
attachable hose connector 1 (Fig. 1) is 35 mm
(1 3/8 in.).
The tube’s internal Ø should be at least 35 mm
(our order no. 093681).
Principally, operation without chip / dust extraction is
not recommendable.
If there is no external dust extractor unit for the use
outdoors or in well ventilated premises the connect-
ing hose 10 (Fig. 4) and the adapter 11 between the
saw assembly and the chip guide canal should be
removed to avoid a possible obstruction in the guide
track of the connecting hose.
