wheels should be properly cleaned, resin residues
and chips should be removed if necessary.
Replace the saw blade with teeth pointing in direc-
tion of rotation (see arrow on the wheel) and tighten
it by turning the star handle 6 clockwise. Correct ten-
sion is reached when the built-in clutch disconnects.
Turn wheel in direction of rotation (see arrow on
wheel) and adjust blade by turning the star knob
screw 47 until the rear end of the saw blade just
touches the 4 blade stop blocks 100. If the band saw
blade should not touch the upper or lower blade stop
block – in spite of an adjustment by means of the
star knob screw – the slipping clutch must be
adjusted as follows:
Loosen blade tension completely by turning star
handle 6 left.
Establish distance «X» between base plate and any
of the edges of the tiltable blade guiding block.
This distance will be reduced by 4 mm (5/32 in.)
minimum to 6 mm (15/64 in.) maximum if the
blade is tensioned by means of the star handle.
If this distance is reduced by more than 6 mm
(15/64 in.) or less than 4 mm (5/32 in.) the slip-
ping clutch inside star handle 6 must be
adjusted with the Allen key SW 6 (6 mm) until
the slipping clutch reacts within this tolerance of
4 to 6 mm (5/32 to 15/64 in.). (Turn left to
decrease, turn right to increase the tension of
the blade.).
Then set the blade position with the star-shaped
handle screw 79. Ensure that the saw blade rear
slightly touches the blade stop blocks 82 / slot-
ted bolts 137 or passes them.
For a final check loosen and tighten star handle
6 once again until the slipping clutch reacts. At
the same time, it must be checked that the
clearance between base plate and roller hous-
ing has been reduced by 4-6 mm (5/32 to 15/64
in.).

Operation
4.1
Switching on and off
•
Switching on
: Push locking slide 24 (Fig. 3)
upwards, then press switch 80 on the side marked
«I».
•
Switching off
: Press the red button 20. If the but-
ton is continuously pressed, the saw blade is
braked to standstill. Put machine aside only, when
switch is in off position.
4.2
Operating instructions
When sawing please ensure that the machine is
firmly placed on the timber to be cut and use both
hands to keep it under control.
4.3
Tilting saw blade
Push lever 21 (Fig. 2) forward completely: Saw blade
tilts continuously up to 30° (Fig. 3) to the right com-
pared to the shaft of the saw blade wheel. In this posi-
tion it is possible to cross-cut timber at a right angle in
any position up to a thickness of 9 cm (3 9/16 in.). Pull
lever back: Saw blade returns to basic zero position.
4.4
Changing the Z 5 E / Z 4 E to a «two-man-saw»
The Z 5 Ec / Z 4 Ec may be handled by two persons
as a «two-man-saw». First screw back both handles
7 (Fig. 4) at the motor by turning them to the left,
until they can be turned upwards by 90°. Then
tighten the hinge pieces in this position. Turn the
rubber stop 156 to the left by 3 rotations and remove
it from the groove. Insert the handle, from the sup-
plied accessory, into the groove and tighten it.
For a clear view of the cut the base plate may be
removed. For this purpose the saw blade must be
removed first (see paragraph «Changing and adjust-
ing saw blades»). The base plate can be removed
by unscrewing the wing screw 61. Make sure that
the saw blade is properly fitted again and that the
two blade guards are replaced in position. The
machine has to be guided by the person holding
both handles. Of course, the saw blade can also be
tilt up to 30° to the right with lever 21.
Belt protection or top and bottom
cover must always be attached.
Only use saw blades which are either
6 or 8 mm (1/4 or 5/16 in.) wide!
Do not switch on the machine if the
saw blade is touching the workpiece.
