When the number of fixes to average
has been reached, this screen will ap-
pear.
Press
ENTER
to display the averaged
position.
Note that the display uses the same format as a waypoint. If the number of
fixes selected has not yet been reached and ENTER is pressed from the
“WAIT” display, a confirmation message appears stating to press ENTER to
stop the session or CLEAR to continue.
From the resultant average screen, press
the
DOWN ARROW
to view the figure
of merit (standard deviation of horizon-
tal position variation) the number of
fixes in the set, and the time of the last
fix in the set.
Press the
DOWN ARROW
again to
view the satellites used and their aver-
age SQs and the average PDOP of the
fixes.

Note that averaging creates two temporary waypoints, AVG and
¢
TMP.
Waypoint AVG is calculated when the preset number of position fixes have
been collected. Until the preset number of fixes have been collected,
waypoint
¢
TMP is the average of the last two position fixes. Once the preset
number of fixes have been collected,
¢
TMP is the average of waypoint AVG
and the most recent position fix. This makes it an easily recognizable “end
of file” marker, especially when averaging is stopped because of signal
interruption.
