10.12 Ventilation Modes Specifications
10.12.1 VCV
VCV - Mandatory volume-controlled ventilation
Description:
In this mode, the respiratory rate, tidal
volume, and inspiratory flow (or
inspiratory ratio or time) are set.
The onset of inspiration (triggering)
occurs according to the pre-established
respiratory rate. triggering occurs
exclusively for time, if the sensitivity
setting is off.
The transition between inspiration and
expiration (cycling) occurs after release
of the pre-set tidal volume at given
velocity through the flow (or ratio or
inspiratory time).

Note: Automatic backup
(1)
1 - Whenever the set apnea time is reached, the ventilator triggers
a ventilator cycle, the setting of which is based on the current
mode settings.
Once all ventilation parameters are received by the ventilator, it calculates the T
INS
, T
EXP
, T
PAUSE
and
I: E Ratio, as a function of the adjusted Flow, Pause, Wave and Frequency, thus obtaining all ventilation control
times.
