IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
WARNING:
To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed, including the following.
READ AND FOLLOW ALL
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
DANGER:
To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken in the use of aquarium equipment.
For each of the following situations, do not attempt repairs yourself. Return the appliance to an authorized
service facility for service or discard the appliance.
1. A. If the appliance falls into the water, DON’T reach for it. First unplug it and then retrieve it.
If electrical components of the appliance get wet, unplug the appliance immediately.
B. If the appliance shows any sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately unplug from the power source.
C. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not be plugged in if there is water on parts not
intended to be wet.
D. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it
is malfunctioning or if it is dropped or damaged in any manner.
E. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or receptacle getting wet,
position aquarium stand and tank to one side of a wall mounted receptacle
to prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug. A “drip loop,”
shown in the figure at right, should be arranged by the user for each cord
connecting an aquarium appliance to a receptacle. The“drip loop” is that
part of the cord below the level of the receptacle or the connector, if an
extension cord is used, to prevent water from traveling along the cord
and coming in contact with the receptacle. If the plug or receptacle does
get wet, DON’T unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that
supplies power to the appliance. Then unplug and examine for presence
of water in the receptacle.
2. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is
used by or near children.
3. To avoid injury, do not contact moving parts or hot parts such as heaters, reflectors, lamp bulbs, etc.
4. Always unplug an appliance from an outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before
cleaning. Never yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
5. Do not use an appliance for other than intended use. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the
appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
6. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures
below freezing.
7. Make sure an appliance mounted on a tank is securely installed before operating it.
8. Read and observe all the important notices on the appliance.
9. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating should be used. A cord rated for less amperes
or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not
be tripped over or pulled.
10. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit in
a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician. Never use with an extension cord unless plug can be fully inserted. Do not
attempt to defeat this safety feature.

diameter extension from aquarium dealer (PA1341).
IF unit will not pump and/or
air won't evacuate from Canister.
Be sure Impeller Assembly and Housing are properly
installed. Also Check Sleeve, Carbon/Media Container,
Micron Cartridge for clogging - clean or replace. Try to
"Burp" Canister. If air remains trapped in Canister
after startup, lift Canister off motor (do not discon-
nect Canister cover), hold lower than aquarium, and
tilt Canister until air has evacuated. Restart. Also
make certain that "OUT" port inside Canister Cover is
fitted over Impeller Exhaust Tube inside Canister.
Make certain that "OUT" port on top of Canister Cover
is connected to Outlet Hose and Tube. Check to see
that end of Outlet Tube and Diffuser are under water.
Correct any loops, kinks or deep curves in hose.
IF filter makes excessive
noise or stops abruptly.
Rinse Canister, Impeller Assembly and Impeller Sump
to remove gravel or carbon obstructions. Also rinse
Carbon /Media Container thoroughly.
IF pumping slows or stops gradually.
Inspect hoses for dirt blocking flow. Clear with Flexi-
Brush accessory (PA0554). Clean or replace Filter
Sleeve, Carbon/Media Container, Micron Cartridge.
MAGNUM CANISTER
• Replace Filter Media every 2-4 weeks.
Black Diamond Premium Activated Carbon
is available at your local Marineland dealer.
• Clean Impeller monthly.
• Clean Intake Tube monthly.
• Clean Micron Cartridge Regularly (Rinse only)
QUICK-DISCONNECT DOUBLE VALVES
• Keep valves clean at all times
• Periodically remove coupling barrel to clean
grooves and O-rings.
• Inspect O-rings for wear.
(To replace, request part #PR1450.)
• When servicing the Magnum, turn valves off and
disconnect the valve halves. Then lift the
Magnum’s canister from the motor, leaving its
cover in place. Reconnect by reversing steps.
BIO-WHEEL PRO
• Once every month, gently brush the BIO-Wheel’s
housing and cover to remove any mineral or
salt crust.
• Once every month, clean the spray bar with rigid
brush. To do so, shut off the water supply, release
the clips and remove the spray bar.
• Every three months, disconnect all fittings and
clean the inside hoses with a 48-inch Flexi-Brush.
Inspect O-rings for damage and replace if
necessary.
• A properly cultured BIO-Wheel is brown or
discolored, and may rotate irregularly. This is nor
mal. If it becomes so heavily cultured that it no
longer rotates, gently rinse its surface to remove
the heaviest buildup. Use only room-temperature
dechlorinated water.
IF air accumulates in Canister during operation.
Move Intake away from airstone bubbles or other air
source. Also check position of hoses and Hose
Retainer Bands to ensure that air is not being sucked
in through hose connections.
IF leakage occurs at hose connections.
Position hose and/or Snapper Clamps properly. Or
reinstall with light coating of silicon lubricant.
IF leakage occurs along rim of Canister Cover.
Check to see that O-Ring is positioned properly. If
O-Ring is damaged, replace immediately. Wash
O-Ring seal area thoroughly. If leak persists, try
lubricating O-Ring lightly with silicon lubricant.
350 BIO-WHEEL PRO
If water does not flow from the BIO-Wheels.
Inspect the Spray Bars for obstruction or buildup.
Also, make sure that the Magnum is plugged in and
that its valves are open. Lastly, check its impeller
system for grit or debris.
If water flow is reduced or the BIO-Wheel
will not rotate.
Check the Magnum media for
heavy clogging. If the media is clogged, change it
or clean it. If it’s not clogged, try cleaning and/or
readjusting the Spray Bar. Also try cleaning or
replacing the BIO-Wheel’s bearings.
IMPORTANT:
Always unplug Canister
Filter before inspecting
or disassembling for
any reason.
For Optimum Performance
NOTE:
Black Diamond Premium activated Carbon and
Bonded Filter Sleeve are not considered a replacement
parts. They are available at your Marineland dealer.
