PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR
ENGLISH
C
Take care to prevent the battery leaking on the drive chain, as
this may weaken it, shorten its life and possibly result in an
accident.
Battery storage
If the vehicle will not be used for a month or more, remove the
battery, fully charge it, and then place it in a cool and dark place.
Fully recharge the battery before installation.
If the battery will be stored for long periods, check the specific
gravity of the fluid at least once a month and fully charge the
battery when the fluid’s specific gravity drops below normal lev-
els.
After installation, make sure the battery is properly connected.
Make sure the breather hose is properly routed, in good repair,
and not obstructed.
The battery fluid is poisonous and can cause severe burns. It
contains sulphuric acid. Avoid any contact with skin, eyes or
clothing.
In the event of contact with the battery fluid:
•
External: flush with plenty of water.
•
Internal: drink large quantities of milk and water. Then drink
milk of magnesia, beaten egg or vegetable oil. Immediately
seek medical assistance.
•
Eyes: flush with water for 15 minutes and seek prompt
medical attention.
Bateries produce explosive gas. Therefore keep them away
from sparks, cigarettes, etc. Provide sufficient ventilation when
charging or using the battery in an enclosed space. Always
wear protective goggles when working near the battery.
KEEP BATTERIES OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
Checking the battery liquid level
A poorly maintained battery will corrode and discharge quickly.
The liquid level must be checked once a month. The level should
be between the minimum and maximum level marks. To replenish,
use only distilled water.
Tap water contains mineral salts that are harmful to the
battery.
FUSES
•
The electrical system includes a 10 A fuse, protecting the main
components against faults. It is locaated next to the battery.
•
To replace a blown fuse, open the black container,
C
, and
replace with a new fuse of the specified amperage.
Do not use a fuse of a higher amperage rating than
recommended to avoid causing extensive damage to
the electrical system or fires resulting from short-
circuits.
