Kayak Safety Suggestions

There are basic safety rules that all kayakers should follow.  Get paddlesports

instructions from a licensed or certified instructor.  Obtain certified first aid and

rescue training and carry first aid rescue equipment.

For your first time on a kayak we recommend beginning in calm water.  You can

get the feel of the kayak and distributions of your weight.  Practice getting in

and out of the kayak until you’re comfortable.

Never exceed the weight capacity of your kayak; check your equipment for

wear and tear before you paddle.  Contact the technical support before making

any modification to your kayak.

Alway do the following check up before launching your kayak:

Always

- Wear a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device
- Dress appropriately for weather conditions; cold water and/ or weather can

result in hypothermia; apply sunscreen and other sun protective clothing

- Inspect your equipment prior to each use for signs of possible wear or

potential failure.

- Tie a leash to your paddle
- Always carry a spare paddle
- Scout unfamiliar waters
- Be aware of river water levels, tidal changes, wind conditions, obstacles in

and above the water and weather changes

- Always make sure that your hatch is secure
- Make sure drain plugs are properly installed
- Test the rudder kit system  (if applicable)
- Test the navigation device (if applicable)

Never

- Never go alone and always file a float plan
- Never go in flood and/or fast moving water conditions
- Never exceed your ability and be aware of your limitations
- Never use alcohol or mind-altering drugs prior to or while using this product
- Never open your hatches in unstable water conditions
- Never remove the foam pieces inside the hull. They are installed for additional

floatation and safety reasons. (If applicable)
