WASH-1 USER GUIDE
SOLVENT MAINTENANCE
The
HTC OVER LIMIT
alarm sounds under three conditions:
●
The level of solvent is too low
●
The Wash-1 contains sufficient solvent, but the solvent contains an excessive amount of dissolved wax
●
(Much more rarely)
A bubble has formed around the HTC thermocouple – in this case, agitate the boil
chamber with a metal rod
The standard wash / alarm / replenish cycle is as follows:
After initially being turned on, the solvent temperature rises from ambient to its equilibrium temperature of
approximately 115
O
F, depending on altitude.
With repeated use, solvent boils off and wax accumulates in the boil chamber. After a period of time, the solvent
will heat to 130
O
F – at which point the HTC OVER LIMIT alarm will sound and the Wash-1 heater will shut off,
returning the solvent to ambient (room) temperature. Follow the steps below to address the alarm:
1.
Press the
Silence
and
Reset
buttons on the dashboard to stop the alarm.
2.
Top off the boil chamber until the solvent level reaches the MAX FILL line.
3.
Restart the Wash-1 heater.
The boil chamber now contains some dissolved wax; as a result, the topped-off solvent will heat to several
degrees warmer than its initial equilibrium temperature. Wait 10-15 minutes after the heater restarts and
note
the equilibrium temperature
of the solvent.
The next time the HTC OVER LIMIT alarm sounds, top off and restart the machine as before. The running
temperature will again be a couple of degrees higher. Again, heat the solvent for 10-15 minutes and
note its
equilibrium temperature
.
