5.3 Channel
Fields
All Channel fields are subdivided into two sections, a yellow and a blue one. Yellow stands for cut-
ting, blue for coagulation. Each section is in turn subdivided into three indication fields: power, cur-
rent type, and activation
source. Power indication is further supported by a luminous bar indicator.
The symbol for the selected current is displayed next to the (numerical) power value. In addition, a
description of the current is displayed in the Context line during the selection process.
The third field indicates the activation source. If this field remains empty (as is the case in the first
example given above), the maxium can only be activated manually, i.e. via the buttons provided on
a handpiece or instrument that has been connected. This manual activation option is available for
both monopolar outputs (M1 and M2) and for the B2 bipolar output. And because it is always avail-
able for these outputs, even if a footswitch has also been selected, it is not specifically indicated on
the display.
Apart from the manual (hand switch) mode, the maxium’s activation options include footswitch op-
eration either via a dual-pedal or a single-pedal footswitch. While the single-pedal footswitch can
be assigned to any channel, the yellow pedal of the dual footswitch can be assigned only to cutting
channels while the blue pedal is reserved for coagulation channels. This applies to both monopolar
and bipolar channels. Moreover, some bipolar coagulation currents can be activated automatically
by making tissue contact with the active electrode, so neither a hand switch nor a footswitch is
needed in these cases.
If the current can be activated through the auto-start or auto-start/auto-stop function, this is indi-
cated in each case (see pictogram).
