7-2 Synchronous Clock
Equipment with waveform generation capabilities, such as bipolar power supplies and function generators,
generate waveforms based on the reference clock such as an oscillator.
However, since oscillators generally have an error of a few ppm to dozens of ppm, individual differences in
the frequency of the generated waveform occur. Due to these individual differences, the frequency
accuracy will not match, even for models of the same series.
Ex.: In the case where there is an error of 2ppm (2 per million) in the frequency of the generated
waveform:
Since at a frequency of 100 kHz, 500,000 cycles are five seconds, a phase shift of one cycle will
occur after five seconds.
Since at a frequency of 100 Hz, 500,000 cycles are 5,000 seconds, the phase shift of one cycle
occurs after 5,000 seconds.
Providing a 10MHz clock using the synchronous clock function can perfectly match the frequency of
the generated waveform.
Similarly, the sequence step time and soft start time also match.
When it is used with the synchronous trigger function, the same waveform can be output
simultaneously when the same settings are applied to multiple units.
7-2-1 Connecting Synchronous clock
Connect to the BNC connector on the rear panel with a coaxial cable.
Since the clock signal is high speed at 10 MHz, use a coaxial cable with 2m or less in length.
Connect a coaxial cable from the CLK OUT on the clock reference unit to the CLK IN on the next
synchronized unit and from the CLK OUT on the synchronized unit to the CLK IN on the next
synchronized unit in order.
Any unit can be used as the reference unit for the clock
