dangerous c
onditions.
AVOID GASEOUS AREAS
Do not operate electric tools in a gaseous or explosive atmospher
e.
Motors in these tools normally spark,
and may result in a dangerous c
ondition.
MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE
Keep tools sharp and clean for best and safest perf
ormance.
Follow ins
tructions
for lubrica
ting and changin
g
a
ccessories.
Inspect tool cords periodically and if damaged, have repaired by authorized service facility
.
Inspect extension cords periodically and replace if damag
ed.
Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and
gr
ease.
Before c
onnecting
the tool to a power source (receptacle, outlet, et
c.),
be sure voltage supplied is
the same as that
specified
on the nameplate of the t
ool.
A power source with a voltage greater than that
specified
for the tool can result in serious injury to the user, as well as damage to the t
ool.
If in doubt, DO
NOT PLUG IN THE T
OOL.
Using a power source with a voltage less than the nameplate ra
ting
is harmful to
the motor
.
Wanrning For your own safety, do not operate your drill press un
til
it is completely assembled
and installed according to the ins
tructions … and u
n
til
you have read and understood the following:
STABILITY OF THE DRILL PRESS
If there is any tendency of the drill press t
o tilt or m
ove during any use, bolt it to the bench top or to a piece
of 3/4" exterior plywood large enough to stabilize the drill pr
ess.
Bolt the plywood to the underside of the
base so it extends bey
ond the sides of the base.
DO NOT USE PRESSED WOODS PANELS.
They can break unexpectedly
.
If the workpiece is too large to easily support with one hand, provide an
auxiliar
y support.
LOCATION
Use the drill press in a well lit area and on a level surface, clean and smooth enough to reduce the risk of
trips and falls
.
Use it where neither the operator nor the casual observer is forced to stand in line with a
poten
tial kickback.
PROTECTION: Eyes, hands, ears and body
.
TO AVOID BEING PULLED INTO THE SPINNING TOOL—
DO NOT WE
AR: Loose fitting gl
oves
Neck
tie
Loose clothing
Jewelry
DO: TIE BACK LONG HAIR
ROLL LONG SLEEVES ABOVE ELBOWS
a.
If any part of your drill press is missing,
malfunctionin
g, has been damaged or broken
…
such as the
motor switch, or other opera
ting
control, a safety device or the power cord
…
cease opera
ting
immediately
un
til the particular part is p
roperly repaired or r
eplaced.
b.
Never place your
fin
gers in a
position
where they could contact the drill bit or other cu
tting
tool if the
workpiece should unexpect
edly shift or
y
our hand should slip.
c
.
To avoid injury from parts thrown by the spring, follow the instruc
tions
exactly as given and shown in
“SPINDLE RETURN SPRING” section.
d.
To prevent the workpiece from being torn from your hands, spinning on the table, sha
tt
ering the tool, or
being thrown, always support your work so it w
on’t shift or bind on the
t
ool.
(1)
Always
position
“backup material” (used beneath the w
orkpiece)
to contact the le
ft
side of the c
olumn.
(2)
Whenever possible,
position
the workpiece to contact the le
ft
side of the column — if it is short or the
table is
til
ted, clamp solidly to the t
able.
Use table slots or clamping ledge around the outside edge of the
t
able.
(3) When using a drill p
ress vise, always fasten to the t
able.
(4)
Never do any work “free hand” (hand holding a workpiece rather than
supporting
it on the t
able)
,
excep
t when polishing.
(5)
Securely lock head and table support to column, and table to table support before opera
ting
drill pr
ess.
(6) N
ever move the head or table support while the t
ool is running.
(7)
Before st
arting
the opera
tion,
jog the motor switch to make sure the drill bit or other cu
tting
tool does
not wobble or cause vibra
tion.
(8)
If a workpiece overhangs the table such that it will fall or
tip
if not held, clamp it to the table or provide
