Continued Airworthiness Inspections

Description

1. General

This chapter contains the Manufacturer
Recommended Inspection Program and
Maintenance Requirements for Continued
Airworthiness defined in accordance with
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part
91.409(f)(3). All scheduled inspections, special
inspections, component replacement and
overhaul schedules, unscheduled inspections
and maintenance tasks are designed to
preserve aircraft reliability and make sure the
continued airworthiness and safe operation of
the MD900 Series helicopter.

New inspection requirements, and changes to
existing inspection requirements, become
effective on the revision date of the change.
Unless otherwise noted, compliance of a new
or revised inspection requirement will be done
no later than the next scheduled interval of
the changed item, after receipt of the revision.
Unless otherwise noted, an inspection in
progress at the time a new revision becomes
effective, can be completed, utilizing the
inspection criteria in effect when the inspec
tion was begun.

2. Regulatory Requirements

The Continued Airworthiness sections describe
inspections and other activities that can be
required by aviation regulatory agencies.

NOTE:

Alternative programs are available as

stated in the operator's local aviation regu
latory authorities' operating rules. These
alternative programs are to be approved for
use by the operator's local aviation regula
tory authority.

A. Airworthiness Limitations

The Airworthiness Limitations Schedule
specifies the mandatory replacement times for
time life-limited components (ref. Section
04-00-00).

At the listed life-limit hours, components or
assemblies must be removed from the helicop

ter and permanently retired from service. At
the listed inspection interval, the components
or assemblies must be inspected in accordance
with the Rotorcraft Maintenance Manual
(RMM) or applicable manufacturers' mainte
nance manual.

B. Component Overhaul Schedule

The Continued Airworthiness Component
Overhaul section (ref. Section 05-10-00) has a
schedule for the required overhaul of compo
nents and/or assemblies.

C. Scheduled Inspection Program Overview

The owner/operator is responsible for the
selection of an inspection program and for its
approval by the governing aviation authority
(ref. Section 05-20-00).

The Continued Airworthiness Special Inspec
tion requirements (ref. Section 05-20-10)
must be complied with in addition with the
inspection program selected by the owner/oper
ator. MDHI, as the manufacturer, has devel
oped two airframe inspection programs for
flexibility and maximum use of the helicopter:

The Airframe Periodic Inspection Program
(APIP) (ref. Section 05-20-20) and

The Airframe Segmented Inspection
Program (ASIP) (ref. Section 05-20-50).

You can choose one of the MDHI programs or
design your own program.

D. Unscheduled Inspections

Unscheduled or conditional inspections are
inspection activities that are required subse
quent to unusual or other specific conditions or
circumstances (ref. Section 05-50-00):
