Torque/Directional Controls
Subsystem
The NOTAR
anti-torque controls subsystem
provides directional control to the rotorcraft.
The anti-torque controls adjust NOTAR
fan
blade pitch and direct jet thruster position.
The anti-torque controls subsystem consists
of:
Anti-Torque/Directional Pedals -
Provide the pilot with directional control of
the rotorcraft around the vertical axis.
Anti-Torque/Directional Linkages -
Transmit pilot input to the NOTAR
fan and
the direct jet thruster.
Anti-Torque/Directional Hydraulic
Servoactuator -
Transfers anti-torque
linkage inputs to the splitter assembly.
Splitter Assembly -
Receives input from
the anti-torque/directional servoactuator,
splits NOTAR
fan and direct jet thruster
controls, and outputs varied differential
control to the fan and thruster.
NOTAR

Fan Linkages -
Transfer control
input from the splitter to change NOTAR
fan blade pitch.
Direct Jet Thruster Linkages -
Transfer
control input from the splitter assembly to
the direct jet thruster.
A. Anti
−
Torque/Directional Pedal Assembly
The anti-torque/directional pedal assembly is
attached to the forward side of Fuselage
Station 106.0 bulkhead assembly in front of
the pilot and copilot seats. The anti-torque/
directional pedals consist of two foot pedals
with adjustment pins to provide for forward
and aft pedal adjustment, mounting brackets,
and interconnecting linkage. There is no pedal
adjustment stop on the copilot pedal cranks.

A pedal anticipator is added to signal the EEC
of impending load demand increase caused by
increased anti-torque fan pitch.
The pedal anticipator, on the pilots left pedal,
signals the EECs of an impending anti-torque
fan pitch change. This allows the EECs to
anticipate a change in power demand caused
by fan pitch. The pedal anticipator also
provides the IIDS with pedal position.
A ground adjustable pedal friction device
allows the amount of effort required to push
the pedals to be set. The friction is set to a
predetermined value and is not to be used for a
pilot's friction preference.
The copilot pedals can be disengaged and
moved far forward and secured. The pedals are
stowed by disengaging the adjustment pin and
positioning the pedal forward past the end of
the pedal crank. A cover is then installed over
the area to prevent objects or debris from
entering the controls.
B. Anti

Torque/Directional Linkages
The anti-torque/directional linkages are
located below the pilots seat under the cockpit
floor, in the controls closet located behind the
pilot's seat, and to the anti-torque/directional
servoactuator below the upper deck in the
cabin.
C. Anti
−
Torque/Directional Servoactuator
The anti-torque/directional servoactuator is
located under the upper deck on the right side.
The servoactuator transfers control linkage
inputs using hydraulic power to position the
splitter assembly.
D. Splitter Assembly
The splitter assembly is located in the baggage
compartment immediately aft of Fuselage
Station 230.50. The splitter assembly receives
inputs from the directional servoactuator,
splits NOTAR
fan and direct jet thruster
controls, and outputs varied differential
control to the fan and thruster.
The splitter accomplishes varied differential
control with a cam and follower arrangement.
Differential control accommodates the
necessity for the fan pitch to be minimal when
the thruster is closed, and at higher pitch
when the thruster is open either left or right.
The fan to thruster control relationship
maintains constant air pressure inside the
tailboom, maintaining efficiency of the
tailboom slots, and the anti-torque function of
the tailboom.
