Take-off Decision Point (TDP):
Clear airfield
The TDP is a point that occurs 8 seconds after the takeoff procedure is initiated.
The takeoff light will display a yellow ``NO-GO'' indication for 8 seconds.
The green ``GO'' indicator illuminates after the TDP.
Heliport/Elevated helipad
The TDP is a point 100 FT (30.5m) HAT and approximately 300 FT (91.4m)
behind the center of the heliport.
HAT
Height above touchdown.
Rejected takeoff (RTO) distance:
The horizontal distance required to land and come to a complete stop should
the engine fail before reaching TDP.
Short Field Takeoff:
The short field takeoff procedure is used for instances when 300 ft (91.4m) ground
distance does not exist forward of the takeoff point. The pilot may perform a
combination of vertical and rearward climb to attain the TDP HAT. For any
rearward climb, or combination of vertical and rearward climb, the helicopter
takeoff profile must follow the heliport/elevated helipad profiles to ensure RTO
up to the TDP HAT (Ref Figure 11-3.15).
Take-Off Safety Speed (V
TOSS
):
The speed (40 KIAS [74km/h]) at which a safe take-off can be continued following
an engine failure.
Takeoff Segment distances:
Segment I distance
The horizontal distance required to climb at V
TOSS
from 35 FT (10.7m) AGL
to 200 FT (61m) AGL.
Acceleration distance
The horizontal distance required to accelerate from V
TOSS
at 200 FT (61m)
to V
Y.
Segment II distance
The horizontal distance required to climb at V
Y
from 200 FT (61m) AGL
to 1000 FT (305m) AGL.
