Connecting the Breakaway
The breakaway lanyard is connected to a simple switch on the drawbar. When connecting the lanyard to
the tow vehicle it should be connected to a solid part of the vehicle. Do not incorporate its connection
with the safety chains.
Ensure the electronic sway control system is awake and in normal operation.
Breakaway Switch Lanyard Connection
•
DO NOT CONNECT THE BREAKAWAY LANYARD TO THE SAME POINT AS THE SAFETY
CHAIN SHACKLES.
•
DO NOT USE THE BREAKAWAY AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE HANDBRAKE AND DO
NOT REMOVE THE PIN AS AN ALTERNATIVE SECURITY MEASURE. REMOVING THE PIN
WILL RAPIDLY DISCHARGE THE BATTERIES.
•
IT IS A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT THAT THE BREAKAWAY BATTERY SOURCE BE
CHARGED DURING TOWING.
•
NSW REQUIRES A BATTERY MONITOR VIEWABLE FROM THE DRIVERS POSITION WITH A
MINIMUM OF A VISUAL ALARM FOR LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE
Connecting the Safety Chains
Chains should be crossed over and connected with suitable rated shackles. Ensure they are connected in
a way to prevent them dragging on the road but not too tight as to restrict the articulation of the vehicle
and trailer combination.
Connecting the Electrics
When connecting ensure the electric cables to your tow vehicle cannot drag on the road or foul the
coupling. If necessary, use zip ties or like keep them neat and safe from damage.
