Installing Rear Boards or Blank Panels in the MD8000 Chassis
Figure 3-6.6: Rear Board Installation
1. Align the rear board with the upper and lower rear board guides so that the retaining
screws on the panel align with the threaded insert on the top and bottom of the chassis
rails.
2. Insert the board until it seats into the chassis backplane connector.
3. Secure the rear board to the chassis using rear board spring-loaded captive screws.
4. Repeat Steps 1 thru 3 for any additional rear boards to be installed at this time.
5. After all rear boards have been installed, any remaining empty slots must have a Blank
Rear Panel installed. To install the Blank Panels:
a. Align Blank Panel Rear spring-loaded captive screws with the top and bottom
threaded slot holes on the chassis rails.
b. Secure the Blank Panel to the chassis using rear panel spring-loaded captive
screws.
CAUTION —
Wear an ESD wrist strap in order to prevent ESD damage to the
equipment.
CAUTION —
To maintain the integrity of the chassis cooling system the entire rear
of the chassis must have either I/O interface rear boards or blank panels installed.
This procedure indicates how to install the SWCNT-9 or any of the trunk or Channel
Service rear boards (or blank panels) into the MD8000 chassis. The figure below
shows the VIF-1Sch Channel Service rear board.
