Keep the power tool properly maintained. Make sure nothing is adjusted incorrectly and that
moving parts do not jam. Make sure no parts are damaged and check for other factors that could
affect the operation of the power tool. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before
being used. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
Keep the tool sharp and clean. Correctly maintained cutting tools with sharp edges are less likely to
jam, and are easier to control.
Use power tools, accessories and the like according to the instructions and in the manner the
power tool is designed for, also taking into account the working conditions and the type of work to
be performed. The use of power tools for work other than what it is intended can result in
dangerous situations.
Service
Allow authorised personnel to carry out service and repairs, and only with original spare parts. This will
guarantee the safety of the power tool.
Special safety instructions for polishing
This power tool is intended for polishing. Read all the safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and
specifications supplied with this tool. Failure to follow all the instructions below can result in electric
shock, fire and/or serious injury.
This power tool must not be used for sanding, brushing or cutting. The use of this tool for work for
which it is not intended to be used for can be dangerous and result in personal injury.
Do not use accessories that are not specifically intended and recommended by the tool
manufacturer. Even if an accessory can be fitted to your power tool, this is no guarantee that it is
safe to use.
The rated speed of the accessory must as a minimum correspond to the maximum rated speed for
the power tool. Accessories that rotate faster than the rated speed can get broken.
The outer diameter and thickness of the accessory must be within the rated capacity of your power
tool. If an accessory is the wrong size, this means it cannot be properly protected or checked.
The shaft size for discs, flanges and supporting discs or any other accessory must match the
spindle on your power tool. Accessories that do not properly match up become unbalanced, vibrate
and can cause you to lose control.
Do not use damaged accessories. Inspect the accessory to make sure there are no splinters or
cracks on the polishing discs. If you drop the power tool or an accessory, check to make sure that it
is not damaged. Fit a new accessory if necessary. After inspecting and fitting an accessory, place
yourself and any onlookers outside the risk zone and run the power tool at full speed for one
minute. Damaged accessories will normally break during this test period.
Wear personal safety equipment. Depending on how you use the machine, wear a face mask or
safety glasses. When necessary wear a face mask, hearing protection, gloves and an apron to
provide protection from small particles or splinters from the workpiece. The safety glasses must be
able to provide protection from swirling debris produced during different phases of the work. The
face mask must be able to filter particles produced during the work. Prolonged exposure to noise
can impair your hearing.
Keep onlookers at a safe distance from the workplace. All persons visiting the workplace must
wear personal safety equipment. Splinters from the workpiece, or from a defective accessory, can
be ejected and cause injury outside the immediate working area.
Always hold the power tool by the insulated grips when the disc can come into contact with
concealed cables or the power cord on the tool. Discs that come into contact with a live cable can
cause the user to be exposed to electric shocks.
Position the power cord at a safe distance from the rotating accessory. If you lose control the
power cord can be cut off, or fasten, and your hand or arm could be pulled into the rotating
accessory.
Never put down the power tool until the accessory has completely stopped. The rotating accessory
can fasten to the surface and pull the tool out of your control.
Do not run the power tool while carrying it. Unintentional contact with the rotating accessory can
cause it to fasten in your clothes and pull the tool towards your body.
Clean the ventilation openings on the motor at regular intervals. The fan on the motor attracts dust
that gets in under the casing, which if it is allowed to build up can put electrical safety at risk.
Do not use the power tool in the vicinity of flammable materials. Sparks can ignite these materials.
Do not use accessories that require coolants. The use of water or other coolants can result in an
electric shock, which could be fatal.
