Inserting & removing
Wash your hands thoroughly before inserting or removing the
Merula Cup XL. There are various ways of folding your cup. We
recommend the
punchdown fold
. Press the upper rim of the
Merula Cup XL on one side to the bottom of the cup and fold
it. This way, it is narrow and pointy and can be easily inserted.
Be in a comfortable position and relax when inserting the cup.
This could be sitting on the toilet, while squatting or while
standing with one leg bent on the rim of the bathtub.
You can use some water or a water-based lubricant (e.g.
Merula
Lube
) for easier insertion. Insert the folded cup and position it so
that the cervix is within the cup (see image page 2). Make sure
that the upper rim of the cup opens up completely. The body of
the cup can remain squished. Check with one finger, whether
your cervix is within the cup and surrounded by the upper rim.
In order to remove the cup, put one finger into the ladder and break the seal with a
second finger by pushing on the body of the cup. Once the vacuum is released, the
cup can be removed and then cleaned. The menstrual cup should be emptied and
cleaned at the latest after 8 hours. You can certainly change your menstrual cup before
then, if you need to.
Assistance:
The right position of your cup is individual. It may take a few cycles until you have
found the perfect position of the Merula Cup XL, even if you have already had
experience with other menstrual cups.
If your Merula Cup XL is leaking or causes an uncomfortable feeling, it is not positioned
correctly. Remove it immediately and position it again so that the cervix is placed
within the cup (see image on page 2).
Should you have difficulties reaching the body of the cup during the removal, you can
make gentle zigzag movements of the ladder, moving it downwards. It can also be
helpful to push the cup down slightly with pelvic floor movements.
