Calibrating Xpress XL
Keeping your machine in a clean, dust free environment will ensure that all the
mechanical parts run smoothly. There are occasions when you may need to adjust
some settings.
One of the programs included with the system is a calibration utility. This utility
includes a quick initial system test for checking the basic disc-transporting functions.
Follow the procedure below to run this test.
Calibration Procedures
To work properly the Xpress XL needs to be correctly calibrated. If not calibrated
propertly you may experience some of the following errors:
•
If discs are not picked up from the input spindles
•
If discs are being dropped off the trays or output spindles
•
If discs are not centered when placed on drive trays
•
If the arm has trouble picking up discs from the drive trays/ printer tray
•
If the printer is not able to clamp the disc properly.
Calibration means making adjustments to the disc production system so the opera-
tion runs smoothly.
Prepare for the calibration procedure
Place a few discs on spindles 1 thru 4. Start the calibration utility program by double-
clicking its desktop icon. The calibration utility’s window will open.
Adjust the spindle calibrations
Click the
Calibrate Position
button and click on the button for the spindle you wish
to calibrate (S1 for example). The disc transport arm will move over to the top of the
spindle, move down close to the top of the spindle and then stop.
If the arm is not centered exactly over the spindle, the calibration of the spindle must be
corrected. Use the two arrow buttons and to “bump” the position of the arm counter clockwise
or clockwise respectively. When the arm is centered, click the
Save
button to accept the change.
Recheck the alignment by repeating this step. Click the
Cancel
button if no change is necessary.
Repeat this step for spindles 1-5 & Rej1 - Rej2.
Calibrate the arm height
To calibrate the height at which the arm travels above the spindles and below the
printer(s), click the Calibrate Spindle Height button. The arm will move over S3,
move slightly to the left, tap the top of the spindle, move to the top of the elevator, and
then back down. The positions are automatically saved.
Adjust the drive calibration
There is no separate calibration for each drive. Only one station on each side (D1
or D7) must be calibrated. Have at least one disc on spindle 4. Click the
Calibrate
Position
button and the
D1
button. The disc transport arm will pick up a disc from
spindle 4 and move it over to the drive. Once it senses the drive tray, the arm will
move back and stop above the drive tray.
