Comparing Video Resolution on a CRT
The CRT is an analog device. There are no discrete points on the
screen that constitute a pixel. Instead, a CRT has a smooth phosphor
surface inside the tube. CRT technology uses an electron beam to
stimulate the phosphor surface to emit light and display an image. The
location of points on the screen is determined by the coordinate system
in which the electron beam is working — not by physical constraints
used on the front surface of the display. As a result, a CRT can
display different resolutions without compromising image quality.
