The MINOX ZP8 has a wide magnification ring with
a built-in cattail. With a bit of practice, the entire
magnification range can be changed in one fluid
turn, without having to reach around the magnifica-
tion ring. This enables rapid magnification changes
even if the area below the eyepiece is blocked, e.g.
by iron sights.
Note:
The image created by the riflescope’s optical
system is formed at the focal plane within the objec-
tive, approximately level with the adjustment knobs.
At very short viewing distances, it might appear that
the magnification is more than 1x because the
aiming eye is “seeing” the image about 30 cm closer
to the target than the eye not looking through the
scope. This occurs with all riflescopes with a 1x start-
ing magnification and does not indicate a defect.
At viewing distances greater than approx. 5 m this
effect will completely disappear.
Diopter adjustment
The purpose of the diopter adjustment is to adapt
the scope to the user’s eye and to compensate for
individual visual acuity. If corrective glasses are worn
while shooting, the glasses must also be worn when
adjusting the diopter.
The MINOX ZP8 has a lock ring to prevent inadvertent
turning of the diopter adjustment ring, e.g. when twist-
ing the eyepiece protection cap into position. Turn the
ring counter-clockwise to release the locking mechanism
and clockwise to lock the diopter adjustment ring into
place. This lock is designed to prevent accidental adjust-
ment of the diopter. However, under use of great force,
the lock ring can still be turned.
Unlike high-magnification riflescopes, it is advisable for
riflescopes with 1x magnification to adjust the diopter
when set at the lowest power and not at maximum
