8. Charging the Battery
If you use new rechargeable batteries, then they are usually empty on purchase and need to be charged.
Please note:
Before the rechargeable battery delivers its maximum power, several complete discharge and charge
cycles are necessary.
Always discharge the NiCd rechargeable battery at regular intervals, since charging a "half-full”
rechargeable battery several times can cause a so called memory effect. This means that the
rechargeable battery looses its capacity. It no longer releases all of its saved energy, drive time of the
model and the transmitter is decreased.
In NiMH rechargeable batteries this is referred to as battery lag, the output voltage may reduce. It is
also helpful in this case, to completely discharge and recharge the battery 3-5 times.
We recommend using a high-quality charging device, with not only a charging function but also with a
special discharge/charge programme for rechargeable battery care.
Only in this way are the average 500-1000 charge/discharge cycles of modern rechargeable batteries
possibly, giving you long term use of your valuable battery.
Take note of chapter 10. b) when charging the rechargeable batteries in the transmitter.
