Safety Notes
This meter corresponds to the directive
for electromagnetic compatibility 89/336/
EEC and to the low voltage directive
73/23/EEC.
With this meter, very high voltages
dangerous to life can be measured.
Particular care must be taken with
measurements of voltages equal to or
greater than 42 V. The test leads must
always be perfectly insulated. Dam-
aged test leads must be replaced.
Please observe the following items in
any case:

The meter is suitable for indoor use
only. Protect it against humidity and
heat (admissible ambient temperature
range from 0 °C to 40 °C).
●
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth,
by no means chemicals or water.
●
If the relevant safety regulations for
operation with voltages equal to or
greater than 42 V are not observed or
if the meter is used for other purposes
than originally intended, if it is not
connected or operated in the correct
way, overloaded or not repaired by
authorized personnel, no liability for
any damage will be accepted.
●
If the meter is to be put out of opera-
tion permanently, take it to a local
recycling plant for disposal.

Applications
With the digital multimeter DMT-3090RS
with automatic range selection, DC and
AC voltages, DC and AC currents, and
resistances can be measured. Further-
more, it is possible to measure diodes,
capacitors, and frequencies. For conti-
nuity tests, a buzzer is integrated.
By means of the supplied interface
cable, the meter can be connected to a
computer with RS-232 interface. The
supplied software for Windows 3.x
®
‚ and
Windows 95
®
‚ allows long-time measure-
ments and recordings of measured
values.

Setting into Operation
1) To obtain a good reading position, un-
fold the set-up bracket at the rear
side of the protective rubber frame.
2) Set the rotary switch (6) to the de-
sired measuring range.
3) A display (2) will appear. If it does not
appear, insert a 9 V battery. If the
symbol
appears, replace the bat-
tery – see chapter 6 “Replacing the
Battery or the Fuses”.
4) Always switch off the meter after
operation: Turn the range switch (6)
to its left or right position “
”.
The meter also switches off auto-
matically if it is not used for approx.
30 minutes. Press the yellow button
(5) shortly to switch it on again.
5) If the meter is not used for a longer
period, the battery should be re-
moved to prevent damage to the
meter in case of battery leakage.

Carrying out Measurements
Measurements in circuits carrying
more than 42 V must only be made
by persons able to recognize a
hazard of contact and to take the
required safety precautions. In
case of measurements with hazard
of contact, avoid working on your
own. Ask a second person to assist.
5.1 Voltage measurement

Take into account unexpected volt-
ages on test objects. Capacitors, for
example, may be dangerously
charged even if the voltage source
has been switched off.
●
With this meter, no measurements in
current circuits with corona dis-
charges (high voltage) must be car-
ried out. Danger of life!
●
The maximum voltage to be meas-
ured must not exceed 600 V
/ ~.
Otherwise there will be danger of life!
1) Connect the red test lead to the red
jack “V

/Hz” (13) and the black
test lead to the black jack “COM” (7).
Never accidentally use one of the two
jacks for the current measurement
