MONTEREY
BOATS
Seasonal Maintenance
•
To avoid damage to the hull and trim tabs,
make sure tabs are completely retracted be-
fore loading the boat on the cradle.
• Make sure the engines are in the down posi
-
tion.
• The cradle or lift must be in the proper fore
and aft position to properly support the hull.
When the cradle or lift is in the correct loca-
tion, the bunks should match the bottom of
hull and should not be putting pressure on the
lifting strakes.
CAUTION
BOATS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY TRAILERS, LIFTS, AND
CRADLES THAT DON’T PROPERLY SUPPORT THE HULL.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE BUNKS AND ROLLERS ARE
ADJUSTED SO THEY ARE NOT PUTTING PRESSURE ON
THE LIFTING STRAKES AND ARE PROVIDING ENOUGH
SUPPORT FOR THE HULL. HULL DAMAGE RESULTING
FROM IMPROPER CRADLE OR TRAILER SUPPORT IS NOT
COVERED BY THE MONTEREY WARRANTY.
Preparing The Boat For Storage:
• Remove the bilge drain plug, if installed.
• Thoroughly wash the fiberglass exterior, es
-
pecially the antifouling portion of the bottom.
Remove as much marine growth as possible.
Lightly wax the exterior fiberglass compo
-
nents.
• Remove all oxidation from the exterior hard
-
ware, and apply a light film of moisture dis
-
placing lubricant, wax or a metal protector.
• Remove the propellers and grease the propel
-
ler shafts using light waterproof grease.
• Remove the batteries and store in a cool
place. Clean using clear, clean water. Be sure
the batteries have sufficient water and clean
terminals. Keep the batteries charged and safe
from freezing throughout the storage period.
Notice:
Refer to the Electrical System chapter, for
information on the maintenance of the AC
and DC electrical systems.
•
Coat all faucets and exposed electrical com-
ponents in the cockpit with a protecting oil.
•
Clean out, totally drain and completely dry the
storage compartments and sinks.
•
Remove cushions, open as many hatches as
possible. Leaving as many of these areas open
as possible will improve the boat’s ventilation
during the storage period.
•
Clean the exterior upholstery with a good vinyl
cleaner and dry thoroughly. Spray the weather
covers and boat upholstery with a spray dis-
infectant. Enclosed areas such as the in-floor
compartments, storage locker areas, etc.
should also be sprayed with this disinfectant.
13.2 Winterizing
Fresh Water System
The entire fresh water system must be completely
drained. Disconnect all hoses, check valves, etc.
and blow all the water from the system. Make
sure the fresh water tank is completely drained.
Use only very low air pressure when doing this to
prevent possible system damage. Because of the
check valve mechanism built in the pump, blowing
the lines will not remove the water from the fresh
water pump. Remove the inlet and outlet hoses
on the pump. Turn the pump on and allow it to
pump out any remaining water (about a cupful).
A recommended alternative to the above-men-
tioned procedure is the use of commercially avail-
able non toxic, fresh water system antifreeze.
After draining the potable water tank, lines, pour
the antifreeze mixture into the fresh water tank,
prime and operate the pump until the mixture
flows from all fresh water faucets. Be sure to
open all hot and cold water faucets, including the
fresh water shower in the cockpit and the faucet
in the wet bar. Make sure antifreeze has flowed
through all of the fresh water drains.
For additional information refer to the Fresh Wa-
ter System chapter. Also, refer to the ice maker
owner’s manual for information on winterizing
the ice maker.
