Coolant Check
To check the coolant level on the Boxer 1800 remove the
top rear engine cover (1)as well as the left rear engine
cover(2).
The coolant needs to be checked in two locations the
reservoir, and the top of the radiator.
First check the radiator by removing the cap turning it
counter clockwise. It may be necessary to gently push
down on the cap to remove. Once the cap is removed,
the coolant level should be at the top of the inside lip as
shown (3).
Second, check the coolant level in the purge tank. The
tank has an upper and lower mark, and the coolant level
should be between the two marks.
Do not over fill the
tank.
The extra space in the tank is needed for expansion
and if over filled, coolant may leek out.
Check the coolant specifications page for proper mixture
and type of coolant before adding coolant.
If a large amount of coolant is needed to top off the
machine, look for leeks and service system as needed.
Coolant Drain and Fill
Before draining any fluid be sure to have a catch pan
large enough to contain the fluid being drained.
With the proper catch pan, locate the radiator drain (5) on
the right rear of the machine as shown.
Note: facing the rear of the machine, the left hand
drain plug (4) is for the hydraulic cooler and the right
is for the radiator coolant.
• Place the catch pan under the machine and remove
the radiator cap to help vent the system and aid in
draining.
• Using an inverted square socket remove the drain
plug. If a square socket is not available a 12mm 12
