A binary bar code symbology representing each character by a group of five bars, two of which are wide.
The location of wide bars in the group determines which character is encoded; spaces are insignificant. Only numeric
characters (0 to 9) and START/STOP characters may be encoded.

EAN.
European Article Number. This European/International version of the UPC provides its own coding format and
symbology standards. Element dimensions are specified metrically. EAN is used primarily in retail.
Element.
Generic term for a bar or space.
Encoded Area.
Total linear dimension occupied by all characters of a code pattern, including start/stop characters and data.
ENQ (RS-232).
ENQ software handshaking is also supported for the data sent to the host.

Flash Disk.
An additional megabyte of non-volatile memory for storing application and configuration files.
Flash Memory.
Flash memory is nonvolatile, semi-permanent storage that can be electronically erased in the circuit and
reprogrammed. MC1000 mobile computers use Flash memory to store the operating system (ROM-DOS), the terminal
emulators, and the Citrix ICA Client for DOS.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
A TCP/IP application protocol governing file transfer via network or telephone lines. See

Flash Memory.
Flash memory is responsible for storing the system firmware and is non-volatile. If the system power is
interrupted the data is not be lost.

Hz.
Hertz; A unit of frequency equal to one cycle per second.
Host Computer.
A computer that serves other mobile computers in a network, providing such services as computation,
database access, supervisory programs and network control.
