SAFETY SUMMARY
SAFETY DEPENDS ON YOU
The following general safety precautions must be observed during all phases of operation, service, and
repair of this equipment. Failure to comply with these precautions or with specific warnings elsewhere
in this manual violates safety standards of design, manufacture, and intended use of the equipment.
Motorola Inc. assumes no liability for the customer's failure to comply with these requirements. T h e
safety precautions listed below represent warnings of certain dangers of which we are aware. You, as
the user of the product, should follow these warnings and all other safety precautions necessary for
the safe operation of the equipment in your operating environment.
G R O U N D THE I N S T R U M E N T.
To m i n i m i z e shock hazard, t h e e q u i p m e n t chassis and enclosure must be connected t o an electrical
ground. The equipment is supplied with a three- c o n d u c t o r ac power cable. The power cable must either
be plugged into an approved three- c o n t a c t electrical outlet or used with a three- c o n t a c t to two-contact
adapter, with the grounding wire (green) firmly connected to an electrical ground (safety ground) at the
power outlet. T h e power jack and mating plug o f the p o w e r cable meet International Electrotechnical
Commission (I EC) safety standards.
DO N O T OPERATE IN AN EXPLOSIVE AT M O S P H E R E .
Do not operate the equipment in the presence of flammable gases or fumes. Operation of any electrical
equipment in such an environment constitutes a definite safety hazard.
KEEP AWAY FROM LIVE CIRCUITS.
Operating personnel must not remove equipment covers. Only Factory Authorized Service Personnel or
other q u a l i f i e d m a i n t e n a n c e personnel m a y r e m o v e e q u i p m e n t covers f o r internal s u b a s s e m b l y o r
c o m p o n e n t r e p l a c e m e n t o r a n y internal adjustment. D o n o t replace c o m p o n e n t s w i t h p o w e r c a b l e
connected. Under certain conditions, dangerous voltages may exist even with the power cable removed.
To avoid injuries, always disconnect power and discharge circuits before t o u c h i n g them.
DO N O T SERVICE OR A D J U S T ALONE.
Do not attempt internal service or adjustment unless another person, capable of rendering first aid and
resuscitation, is present.
USE C A U T I O N WHEN EXPOSING OR H A N D L I N G THE C R T.
Breakage of the Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) causes a high- v e l o c i t y scattering of glass fragments (implo-
sion). To prevent C RT implosion, avoid r o u g h h a n d l i n g o r jarring o f the equipment. H a n d l i n g o f the
CRT should be done only by qualified maintenance personnel using approved safety mask and gloves.
DO N O T SUBSTITUTE PARTS OR M O D I F Y E Q U I P M E N T.
Because of the danger of introducing additional hazards, do not install substitute parts or perform any
unauthorized m o d i f i c a t i o n o f the equipment. C o n t a c t Motorola Microsystems Warranty and Repair for
service and repair to ensure that safety features are maintained.
